Asian Council of Science Editors has always been contributing its best to ensure and promote scholarly integrity by playing a key part in educating editors, publishers, and those involved in publication ethics. Fulfilling its mission the ACSE has always focused capacity building and the growth of ACSE membership across all disciplines and regions.
Considering the shifting trends to COPE with work during the pandemic situation, we are excited to share with you a new initiative of “eLearning program” by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
COPE introduced an eLearning program to educate non-members working on scholarly journals. eLearning course comprises a series of ten modules that are primarily designed for editors and publishers who want to improve their understanding of publication ethics and provide the tools and knowledge needed to address the many issues they face when editing a journal.
eLearning activities include practical guidance regarding plagiarism, falsification, authorship, conflicts of interest, and misconduct. The main objective of this module is to accentuate the importance of ethical publishing as well as outline the definitions of misconduct. Case studies, questions, audio or video podcasts will be characteristic components of each module which will help to review your knowledge.
Virginia Barbour, who served as the Past Chair of COPE, stated, “The free taster module aims to give potential members a feeling for the extensive benefits that the organization can offer them.”
In a word, eLearning is indeed a great initiative by COPE, which provides a golden opportunity to master the publication ethics through education, resources, and support of our members with free access to the module.
